Chantal Matiko har vært sjåfør for WFP i Den demokratiske republikken Kongo (DR Kongo) siden 2009. I denne artikkelen forteller hun om utfordringene hun møter i jobben, blant annet hvordan hun overlevde et væpnet bakholdsangrep.

Når man våkner opp til en så nydelig morgen i Roma, er det vanskelig å forestille seg at byen opplevde en massiv hungersnød i 400 e.Kr. som endte opp med å ta livet av nesten 90 prosent av befolkningen. Historikere forbinder dette tidspunktet i historien med noe annet: begynnelsen på Romerrikets fall.
Programmet "Building Climate-Resilience for Food and Nutrition Security of Smallholder Farming Households in Teso Sub-Region in Uganda" vil prioritere familier ledet av kvinner i Kaberamaido og Katakwi-distriktene i Teso.

Shupikai Chaparapata peker på avlingene som spirer på hver side av en sandsti som skjærer gjennom åkeren hennes i Mudzi-distriktet nordøst i Zimbabwe. Til venstre for henne er maisen gul og vissen på grunn av det vedvarende tørre været.
Mens rekordmange mennesker flykter fra krig og konflikter, øker bekymringen for at fremgangen i kampen for å utrydde sult globalt kan be reversert.
"En dag i fremtiden vil verdens matvaredag være en feiring av en fredelig verden hvor ingen lider av sult. Dessverre virker det som denne dagen ligger langt frem i fremtiden.

"Vi var en lykkelig familie i Sør-Sudan. Men i perioder preget av usikkerhet fantes det ikke utdanning og mat. Jeg kom til Uganda på grunn av konflikt og sult.
Du vet når noen føler seg sulten. Du ser i ansiktene deres at de ikke smiler. Man kan føle seg irritert, og man er ikke snill med mennesker rundt seg.

På en signeringsseremoni i dag forpliktet Norge seg til å bidra 3 millioner amerikanske dollar til Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA), et initiativ av en gruppe med landbruksfokuserte organisasjoner dannet for å få markeder til å fungere bedre for småskalabønder. Den norske støtten ble annonsert under et besøk av utviklingsminister Nikolai Astrup til Yaras gjødselterminal i Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Takket være giverland som Norge har WFP nylig fordelt US$180 millioner til rundt 60 landoperasjoner — samtidig som det gir et viktig og vitalt løft til livreddende innsats i Syria, Jemen, Den sentralafrikanske republikken og Den demokratiske republikken Kongo.
