OUAGADOUGOU/KØBENHAVN – FNs World Food Programme (WFP) varslet i dag om en eskalerende humanitær krise drevet av utbredt konflikt og de langvarige effektene av klimaendringer som har rammet Burkina Faso og nabolandene i den sentrale delen av Sahel regionen i Vest-Afrika.
Khartoum, Sudan – FNs World Food Programmes (WFP) eksekutivdirektør, David Beasley, fulgt av Sudans statsminister, Abdalla Hamdok, besøkte i dag Kauda i Nubafjellene i Sør-Kordofan. Besøket er en milepæl for den gradvise ekspansjonen av humanitær tilgang til omstridte områder i Sudan.

“Dagens avstemming i Sikkerhetsrådet er et stort skritt fremover i innsatsen for å bryte sirkelen av konflikt og sult som står i veien for velstand og fred for flere hundre millioner mennesker,” sier David Beasley. “Sikkerhetsrådet anerkjenner at matvaresikkerhet er en avgjørende faktor for å skape fred og sikkerhet.
