15 september 2017, København – Etter en jevn nedgang de siste 10 årene, har nå antall mennesker som sulter økt. 815 mennesker var påvirket av sult i 2016, 11 prosent av verdens befolkningen, sier en ny utgave av FNs årsrapport angående verdens matvaresikkerhet og ernæring som ble utgitt i dag.

Når man våkner opp til en så nydelig morgen i Roma, er det vanskelig å forestille seg at byen opplevde en massiv hungersnød i 400 e.Kr. som endte opp med å ta livet av nesten 90 prosent av befolkningen. Historikere forbinder dette tidspunktet i historien med noe annet: begynnelsen på Romerrikets fall.
Den oppadgående trenden for sult i verden - etter flere tiår med jevn nedgang - understreker nok en gang den enorme utfordringen med å oppnå målet om å utrydde sult innen 2030. Antallet sultne mennesker i verden er tilbake på samme nivå som for ti år siden.
Kartet – Global Monitoring of School Meals during COVID-19 School Closures – gir daglige skjermbaserte oppdateringer om stengte skoler og antall barn som følge av stengingene ikke lenger får daglige skolemåltider.
I tillegg til det globale overblikket, viser kartet gjennom realtidsdata hvor mange barn som rammes i hvert land, samt til omfanget av problemet og behovet for løsninger.
En gang var hun avhengig av matvareassistanse for å overleve — nå distribuerer hun det. Dette er en historien om hvordan en kvinne ble en suksessfull handelskvinne mot alle odds, i en nådeløs by og land hvor man trenger mer enn hardt arbeid for å lykkes.

Hva er din bakgrunn? Jeg har en bachelorgrad i statsvitenskap og et årstudium i fransk fra NTNU. Etter året med fransk jobbet jeg som praktikant ved den norske delegasjonen til FN-organisasjonene i Roma (FAO, WFP, IFAD), som er en del av den norske ambassaden i Italia.
