I den østlige byen Port Sudan, hvor titusener av mennesker på flukt fra krigen søker ly, kan man se spinkle spedbarn med tynne armer som er alvorlig underernærte. Sultne mennesker fyller skoler og andre provisoriske bosteder, og klamrer seg til de få eiendelene de har med seg fra sine gamle liv.
Mer enn en tredjedel av Syrias befolkning er internt fordrevet da mennesker foretar desperate forsøk på å finne sikkerhet. Med denne kontinuerlige fordrivingen følger det alarmerende høye nivåer av sult og behov.
FNs World Food Programme (WFP) er stolt av å samarbeide med over 1000 ikke-statlige organisasjoner (NGOer) verden over, fra små grasrotgrupper til store internasjonale bistandsorganisasjoner.
Til tross for at de produserer mesteparten av verdens mat har småskalabønder en tendens til å selv leve i matusikkerhet. På verdensbasis utgjør de flertallet av alle som lever i fattigdom. Å bidra til å øke inntektene til småskalabønder og styrke livsgrunnlaget deres er avgjørende for å bygge bærekraftige matsystemer, øke matsikkerheten og oppnå målet om null sult.
Som mor til to barn var det ikke enkelt for Jeanette fra Rwanda å finne arbeid på en gård. "Ikke alle arbeidsgivere vil ansette en kvinne med små barn. Vi hadde ikke råd til å betale for sykeforsikring eller låne land der vi kunne dyrke våre egne avlinger", sier hun.
Tobarnsmoren Agustina fra Guatemala syntes det var vanskelig å få endene til å møtes.
FNs World Food Programme (WFP) har seks tiår med erfaring i å støtte skolemat- og helseinitiativer, og samarbeider med mer enn 100 land for å etablere bærekraftige nasjonale programmer.
En stor del av Assams befolkning er avhengig av jordbruk, noe som gjør dem svært sårbare for konsekvensene av klimaendringer. Prosjektet skal utstyre småbønder i delstaten med innovative og klimatilpassede jordbruksteknikker og strategier for diversifisering og utvidelse av livsgrunnlaget.
