Livet kunne ikke bli mer grusomt, tenkte Doulama Saeb etter å ha flyktet fra Deir-ez-Zor i østlige Syria. Familien hennes var etterlatt i den beleirede byen, uten mat, forsyninger, penger eller fungerende banker. Faren hennes overlevde på muggent brød dyppet i te som han kokte igjen og igjen.
Den oppadgående trenden for sult i verden - etter flere tiår med jevn nedgang - understreker nok en gang den enorme utfordringen med å oppnå målet om å utrydde sult innen 2030. Antallet sultne mennesker i verden er tilbake på samme nivå som for ti år siden.

ROMA – I 2019 mottok FNs World Food Programme (WFP) NOK 3,8 milliarder i fleksible midler. Dette utgjør fem prosent av WFPs sammenlagte bidrag og er langt under rekorden på 19 prosent i 2002.
Fleksible midler, ikke-øremerkede bidrag, gir WFP muligheten til å bestemme hvor og hvordan penger skal brukes.
